Retired?

Randy Moss, one of the greatest receivers of all-time retired today. He caught nearly 15,000 passes and scored 153 touchdowns.  He is a sure Hall of Famer.  Whether or not he stays retired remains to be seen.
We aren't dealing with Brett Favre here but there is some question whether or not Randy Moss will remain retired.  We all know that he still has plenty of talent and can make an impact in the NFL.  Just last year he was making one-handed catches outrunning Darrelle Revis for a touchdown.  That catch made me forget that we lost the game.  Randy Moss has been making catches like that ever since his days in college at Marshall.  He has been a human highlight reel catching touchdowns like the Cornelia Marie catches crab.
There are many reasons to think that Randy is not done playing in the NFL.  He is currently tied with Terrell Owens with the second most career touchdowns with 153.  He is only 140 yards away from 15,000 yards receiving and needs 46 receptions to reach 1,000. Those are milestone numbers that one would think a guy like Randy Moss would want to achieve.  If Moss stays retired than we will know that his ego wasn't as big as the media made it out to be.
One person who doesn't think Randy will stay retired is his former teammate Robert Smith.  Smith, who now works as an ESPN analyst said he doesn't think Moss is done for good.

"He's as talented a guy as I've ever seen play the game. He's a guy with some pride, and more than    anything else in the past few years, he's thinking about his legacy.  Without a Super Bowl, I think he can't help but look at his resume and say that was a disappointment.  I would be completely surprised if he was actually retired."

If the right opportunity arises for Randy, I believe he will come out of retirement.  He wants to compete for a championship and after the Patriots signed Chad Ochocinco and the Jets signed Plaxico Burress, I believe he realized he probably wouldn't be playing football on a championship caliber team.  However, maybe he is satisfied with what he has accomplished and can remain retired knowing that he will go down as one of the best receivers the NFL has ever seen.

If Randy Moss stays retired, he will do so without winning a Super Bowl.  However, he was a big piece of the 18-1 Patriots who re-wrote the record books and were one play away from immortality.  He will always be known for being a premier receiver and scoring touchdowns.  Sadly, people will also remember him for walking off the field before the game was over and for pretending to moon the crowd at Lambeau.  He was a charismatic individual who had memorable press conferences and classic soundbytes.  Who could ever forget some of his quotes like "Straight Cash Homey." Maybe that is what it will take to get Randy out of retirement.
