The Ravens Ray Lewis was right. During the lockout he said this to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, "Watch how much evil, which we call crime, watch how much crime picks up, if you take away our game." When asked why, he said because "There is nothing else to do." This is coming from a player who went on trial for the murder of two people while at a Super Bowl party. He almost spent the rest of his life behind bars instead having the privilege to play in the NFL. If he was convicted, Ray Lewis would have been captain of the inmate team while in jail, that's for sure.
If the NFL lockout didn't end, there would have been many players getting into trouble, who knows what would have happened. Even still, the New York Jets manage to fill half of their roster with "bad boys" who have had their fair share of run-ins with the law. Their third round draft pick, defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis currently is pending trial for allegedly breaking the jaw and nose of a man on the Hampton (Va.) University Campus. He faces up to 20 years in jail. What other profession would hire you, let alone pay you millions of dollars, if you have a trial pending in which you could go to jail for 20 years? Even my beloved Patriots have acquired Albert Haynesworth who has a trial pending for sexual assault. Lets just hope he is acquitted of all charges and can get back to being the defensive player of the year like he was in 2008.
All of these players have managed to get themselves in serious trouble with the law, without the NFL being in a state of lockout. Just imagine who and what may have happened around the country if the NFL was without a 2011 season. My best guess is Albert Haynesworth and Ben Roethlisberger would team up and babysit Antonio Cromartie's 7 children while the entire Jets team would make it rain with Pacman Jones and hopefully not shoot in their pants.
Here is the video of Antonio Cromartie trying to remember his seven children from six mothers, all under the age of 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpSwaVclOgU
