Greatest U.S. Born Hockey Player Retired Today

Mike Modano signed a one day contract with the Dallas Stars, whom he played 21 of 22 NHL seasons, and officially retired today.  Modano is the all-time leader in goals scored and points for a U.S. born player.  He was the first overall pick in the 1988 draft and won the Stanley Cup in 1999.  Congrats Mike on an illustrious career!

P.S. - Shout out to Chris McMorrow who is the nephew of Modano and grew up in Pembroke, MA.  Never will I forget when your uncle was dropped off the stretcher when he was being carried off the ice, nor will I forget you rooting for the Stars while I rooted for the Red Wings and most of the time the Wings won.  Funny how Mike joined the Red Wings last season and that will be the final team he actually played for.
