Wakefield Stuck on 199

A five run complete game wasn't enough to get the win as Tim Wakefield failed to reach win 200 for the fourth straight game.  Wakefield gave up nine hits and two walks over eight innings.  He didn't have much help as the Sox only managed to score one run up to the eighth inning.  Jed Lowrie made a critical error in the third inning, or the umpire simply missed the call, as Lowrie failed to touch second base while trying to turn a double play.  Not only was the runner safe at second, the throw was late getting to first base and the bases became loaded with no outs instead of two.  That failed double play turned costly as the Mariners scored three runs in the inning and seemingly never looked back.
Poor Wakefield.  This guy is a Boston legend and has tried four times to become the 108th pitcher ever to reach the 200 win plateau .  He hasn't pitched particularly great but he hasn't had much run support either.  Wakefield has had three quality starts yet hasn't won a game whether it is because of the bullpen, poor defense, no run support, or simply bad luck.  Wakefield will likely get his 200th win on the road in either Kansas City or Texas, but if his bad luck continues, perhaps he can win his 200th game at home, against the A's or even better against the Yankees at the end of August.  If he were to win at home, I've been told there will be a celebration at Game On as they almost did two weeks ago.  That will be a party you don't want to miss.
