If we were in the postseason the Red Sox would have been swept by the Texas Rangers as they dropped the first four games of the year up until last nights 11-5 victory. Adrian Gonzalez had two homeruns as the Sox offense carried the team behind John Lackey's seven inning performance. Gonzalez had just one homerun in his previous 157 at-bats.
As of late John Lackey has certainly turned his season around as he is finally pitching healthy. It also doesn't hurt that the Sox are averaging over six runs a game when Lackey pitches. Lackey is 7-2 in his last nine starts as he tries to solidify his role as the number three pitcher behind Beckett and Lester. Newly acquired pitcher Erik Bedard is vying for that number three slot and some may say he has pitched better than Lackey, he just hasn't had as much run support. However, Bedard hasn't earned a win in a Red Sox uniform up to this point and the Sox just seem to win when Lackey pitches. There is still plenty of baseball to be played and we will have more opportunities to squabble over who should be the Red Sox number three starter.
