Youkilis To DL

Joe Haggerty of CSN New England confirmed today that the Boston Red Sox will place Kevin Youkilis on the Disabled List due to his lingering back problems.  Catcher/DH slugger Ryan Lavarnway will be called up to play against the Royals.  He has split time this season between AA Portland and AAA Pawtucket and has hit 30 HR and 85 RBI.
The Red Sox already have David Ortiz seeing a specialist for bursitis on his heel and has missed a few games.  We all know about Clay Buchholz's back problems, as well as Daisuke's injuries (remember him?).  There is never a good time for injuries but with an eight game lead in the wild card, it is better that these injuries occur now then during the playoffs.
After having a rough weekend in Seattle, the Red Sox came home and lost two of three games to the Rays in 24 hours.  The team looks tired and beat up.  While his average has remained high, Adrian Gonzalez has hit only two HR in his last 199 plate appearances. Reports are saying that he has been playing with a sore neck and that may be the reason why he hasn't been able to hit for power.  The last thing the Red Sox need is for Gonzalez to land on the DL.  Injuries were the demise of this team last year and the last thing we need is a bunch of injuries as we approach the playoffs.
