Timmy Ballgame

Yesterday was Tim Wakefield's 45th birthday.  Tonight could be a much more memorable night as he goes for his 200th career win.
Tim Wakefield is the oldest player in the MLB and when he gets his 200th victory he will be the oldest player to reach the milestone.  Being on the Red Sox since 1995, it will feel strange to not see his name on the roster when he decides to hang it up.  He is one of only two knuckleball pitchers in the MLB, the other being the NY Mets R.A. Dickey.  He can thank his knuckleball and low stress pitching style for his longevity in the league and being able to reach the 200 win mark without having a single 20 win season.  His low stress pitching style once allowed him to throw an unprecedented 172 pitches over 10+ innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  No pitcher comes close to that mark these days.
Tim Wakefield will surely be inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame but is a long shot for Cooperstown.  He has never won a Cy Young and has never been a premier dominating pitcher.  However, with his charity work off the field and his consistency on the field, Tim Wakefield will be remembered for helping win two World Series and will go down as one of the greatest Red Sox pitchers of all-time.
